Don McLagan's story about speaking with a class at HBS
1) Why are we here? To make revenues grow
I had a CEO once, who was doing some consulting. He had joined the company that I was in the subsidiary for, and he came out to visit us in the San Francisco Bay Area. He said that he regularly met with Harvard Business school students, and he would say to them, when you have a discussion in your company and you asked the question, why are we here? He said, the answer should be to make revenues grow. That's why we're here.
Now. Since then, there have been others that have shown, like Simon Sinek, I think shows that if you have a purpose, a “why”, that we're here to inspire the individual investor and help them be independent and etcetera. Then if you do that well for the customer, revenues come, revenues follow, they go with that. |
