Frequently Asked Questions

1) How close is the property to the lake?

The house is a block-and-a-half from the lake shore, less than 10 minute walk to the clubhouse & beach.

2) How big is the lake?

It's just under 400 acres.

3) Is there fishing in the lake?

Yes. The lake is stocked with bass (rock, small and large-mouthed), perch, trout, pickerel, tiger muskies (the latest addition), and an abundance of bluegills for the kids. We have fishing poles and tackle for adults and kids that our renters are welcome to use. Bait is available in the general store, about 4 miles from the house. Most kids (and adults) fish from the docks. It's a great place to learn how to fish. (Our boys can provide testimonials.)

4) How close are the beaches or lakes to your house?

The closest beach and the pool is a short 10 minute walk, or 2 minutes by car (Our kids usually ride bikes to the pool or day camp).

5) Is your house "child friendly?"

The house can accommodate three children in the kids room, which has bunk beds and a trundle bed. Our 8 and 10 year old love the bunk beds, and sometimes have a friend stay over on the trundle bed. There is also another queen-sized bedroom in addition to the master bedroom that could be used by one or two children. All are on the second floor. We also have gates for the stairways to protect toddlers.

6) The listing on CyberRentals mentioned a hot tub. Is this outdoors and if so when is it in operation?

The hot tub is in operation year-round; it's in its own sun room, which is heated.

7) Is there a stereo system?

Yes, an Aiwa 3-CD, AM/FM system.

8) Is there a fireplace and wood?

There is also a working fireplace and supply of wood stacked in the breezeway.

9) Are there docking rights if we rented a boat?

There are docks, but only for members of the Lake Association (they require safety instruction and CT licensing). Boat rentals are being considered, and may be a future option.

10) Is it a planned community with a community center to meet others or a typical lake town?

It is a planned community, with a new community clubhouse, with health club facilities. There are a number of community events throughout the year, including a summer kids day camp. Events and facilities are for members only. Renters are automatically members during their stay.

11) Is the lake rocky or sandy?

The lake has five sandy beaches with sandy bottoms in the immediate swimming area. Elsewhere, the lake has a rocky bottom. The community also has a heated olympic-sized pool.

12) What is the driving distance from the New York Area?

Our house is about two hours from LaGuardia airport, and about two and a half hours from Midtown.

13) What outdoor winter sports are available during the winter?

Mohawk mountain (for downhill skiing) is 10 minutes away; the White Conservancy (for cross country skiing) and Litchfield Country Club (for sledding) are also a 10 minute drive; ice skating is on the lake (about a 5 minute walk); all weather permitting!

14) Is the house air-conditioned during the summer?

The house has central air, plus an additional unit in the master bedroom.

15) Are your rates lower during non-summer months?

Our in-season rates are for rentals from May 25 through October 15. Off-Season rates are from October 16 though May 24. Off-season rates are about 10% lower, and longer stays are discounted. Please inquire for details.

16) What is the nearest train station to New York City?

The Waterbury, CT Metro North station is closest, at 22.3 miles from our house. A train map and schedule are at the Metro North web site, here: http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm

17) What other amenities does your house have?

In addition to the features on the CyberRentals web site, we have games for rainy days, a telescope, ping-pong table, pool table, blender, microwave, kitchen equipment (pots, pans, etc.), a VCR-DVD Player, beach and tennis privileges and full workout room privileges at the club house.

18) How secluded in this property?

Our house has the best of both worlds: we are part of a larger lake community where about half are year-round residents; and our house is on an acre of wooded land, secluded on four sides by large hardwoods and evergreens.
