ARE YOU A PERFECTIONIST?

Answer "yes" or "no" to each of the following questions (adapted from Too Perfect: When Being in Control Gets Out of Control,. Fawcett Columbine; 1993), and you'll get an idea if you're a perfectionist heading toward the danger zone.

1. Do you get too caught up in details?
2. Is it hard for you to let go of a work project until it's just right?
3. Have you often been called picky or critical?
4. Is it important to you that your employees perform tasks in a specific manner?
5. Do you have trouble making decisions and, once you make them, do you second guess yourself?
6. Are you reluctant to reveal your motives or feelings?
7. In thinking about a future project, do you dwell on what might go wrong?
8. Does your sense of worth stem from performing your job flawlessly?
9. Do you make lists of things you should do, even in your spare time?
10. Do any of the above characteristics cause difficulties at work --or interfere with your ability to enjoy life?

If you answered "yes" to more than half of these questions, you're a perfectionist. See the main text, above, for, suggestions on how to change your ways.
